PRESS RELEASE
Italian Property Holds the Key to Lakeside Living in Como

February 26, 2009 - In these turbulent times, property buyers are looking for mature, tried-and-tested markets offering good returns and low risk. Lake Como, often considered the most beautiful of the Italian lakes, is also blessed with buoyant housing prices that buck the downward trend. Real estate and restoration expert, Italian Property, has secured a selection of apartments that set a new standard for exclusive, eco-friendly developments and offer an affordable entry to the area.

An hour’s drive from Milan, Lake Como is renowned for its charming, lakeside towns, magnificent villas, spectacular mountain scenery – and famous residents. The lake has long attracted more than its share of illustrious visitors, and George Clooney, Richard Branson and Sting currently have holiday homes on its shores.

The ‘Clooney effect’ ensures that property is at a premium and rental incomes remain high, despite the global crunch. Italian Property, in collaboration with BellaVista, Lake Como Property Limited, has a portfolio that straddles some of most sought-after areas around the lake.

The Menaggio Apartments are a selection of contemporary residences that combine luxury living with green sensibilities. Built into the hillside above Menaggio using local stone, the apartments have large terraces and lake facing living spaces to make the most of the spectacular views. The floor to ceiling windows are equipped with automatic darkening for solar protection during the intense summer heat. Due for completion in June 2009, seven apartments are still available, with prices starting from €585,000 rising to €1.2m.

Menaggio, part of the so-called ‘golden triangle’, is a popular holiday destination, packed with shops, restaurants, stunning 19th century villas and pretty piazzas. For those more interested in active pursuits, sailing and windsurfing are available through the local watersports association.

Borgo Tre Terre is a restoration of an abandoned agricultural village 15 minutes from Menaggio. Renowned architect Arturo Montanelli is creating a complex of contemporary and beautiful two bedroom apartments with lake views, whilst retaining the original feel of the borgo by using reclaimed materials wherever possible. Due for completion in summer 2009, only ten of the eighteen units remain, with prices ranging from €320,000 to €700,000.

The Varenna Apartments, a four phase development, presents potential buyers with an affordable foothold on the property ladder of possibly the most picturesque town on the lake. Boasting breathtaking views of the lake, the one and two bedroom apartments are equipped with all mod cons and use of a communal pool. Phase one and two are complete and almost sold out, and the remaining two units are due for completion in 2009, with prices starting at €285,000.

Varenna is an intimate town with a rich history that belies its size. Home to a Cistercian convent dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, several showcase villas with terraced gardens skirting the shore, and the ancient castle where Theodolinda, Queen of the Lombards, lived in the 7th century, the town also offers a relaxed cafe lifestyle along the waterfront.

Jason Jones, managing director says: “Lake Como is the jewel in the crown of Italy’s alpine lakes, but its beautiful waters, breathtaking vistas and luxury lifestyle aren’t solely the preserve of celebrity royalty. These three new developments offer buyers the opportunity to acquire a property in a prime location as a second home or a reliable rental investment. And, given its proximity to ski resorts at Madesimo and Saint Moritz, Lake Como is a destination you’ll want to enjoy all year round.”
